Hey guys after opinions

How low can you go, before causing problems?

FJ 40 35's 15 inch rims. 1680 tare

I'd go the other way around. Lower on rock than sand

When I had 35 BFGs on 15x8 sunnies on my 40 series I ran 8-10psi on rock no probs. Never did a bead.

Moved to 38 TSLs and ran 5-6psi no worries. Never did a bead.

I did a little thing the other day in my workshop.

I let one tyre down by eye to where I thought it bagged properly.

Got the same thing, got down to about 8-10 psi.

I did drive it onroad with those pressures for a little bit and it felt ok but was just worried about the bead on rocks.

Just wanted to know how low I could go without beadlocks.

lower on rocks then sand is my opinion aswell.

I would say 15 on sand should be ok for your 40 but dont be afraid to go down to 10psi, just dont hook it or try donuts and shit

On rocks 8-10psi as Shorty 40 said should be fine.
I am slowly letting my tyres down more and more each trip and so far no worries until i completely loose a bead i gonna keep droppin

I run some heavy duty Simex tubes.

They aren't bead locks but stop the "momentary" escape of air that generally cause the tyre to deflate enough to come away from the bead.

Does the job for me ...

I run my 35" MTR`s on about 13psi on rocks no probs yet on my patrol

Going to try 10psi soon

i run 8 psi in mine admittadly its a light car but my brother in law runs simex extreme trekker2 on his long wheelbase maverick at ten psi no bead locks hasnt rolled one off yet [there 36x12.5]

i run 6 psi on rok and sand

works well



get serious and let some air out

i have run 7-8 psi no problems on GQ SWB rocks, sand, mud, bitumen road, everything, generally run between 12-15

8-10 off road

is that cold or hot?

Whats the general rule by doing it by eye. I have heard, let it down till the bulge is about 1" out from the tyre?

is this correct.

I wouldn't put my 'bulge' that close to the tyre

Just noticed your location. If I lived 30 seconds from Stockton I wouldnt bother pumping mine up either

i run 10 psi on sand but i have lowered them to 4psi for sand dune hill challenge and for recovering a pathfinder that was bogged in some wind swept dunes

and 15 to 20 for rocks only so i can turn sharper on rocks

35 BFG mud terrains on 15 x 10 inch outlaws

i popped one of my TSL's at 12psi......

Were you bouncing on rock? sand? Stressing the tyre or just driving along?

If you haven't popped a bead (without beadlocks) you're running too much air
Run the Heep muddies (non beadlcoked) at about 8-10PSI. Result:

The swampers (36") I generally run at about 8 PSI - even though the beadlocks let me go heaps lower I like a bit more diff clearance.....

wet rocks, slight up and cross fall, wrong line, slide sideways. no bouncing, just sliding, nice and easy.... SO the tyre had horizontal stress. the pressue may have dropped from when i let them down though. only on 8" rims too.
