hilux 2.7 ltr engine died at 230,00kms

has anyone else had a hilux 2.7ltr engine do a botom end? what am i looking at to get it fixed.

a mate of mine had his die about 2 months out of warrenty, he ended up doing a full rebuild and spent nearly $7000. but i think he paid too much...........

its done a main bearing between 1 & 2 conrods. thinking about just replacing the bearings as thats about all i can afford to do to it. every thing else should be ok. its mostly driven on gas. head was reco'd just recently
