Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey guys i need help with a design for a internal roll cage
problem is im tall and the ute cabe isn't so big its a nissan GQ ute cab and because you need allowances between your head and bars don't know why
but i need to know if there is a way around this without extending the cab

i was thinking have the internal go out the back wall and join on to the extenal roll cage will this be legal? and will it be appropiate for comps?
what have other tall blokes done with internal roll cages?

i thought about doing that too to save weight as i can join it to the external hoop but the internal has to be body mounted (no chassis mounts). but i guess if you mount your external to the orig body mounts behind the cab it might be ok.

I guess your talking about the "B" pillar hoop. There's no way around it. I've got a copy of the Outback Challenge requirements if you PM me your email address I'll forward them on. Basically if you can get it engineered it'll pass scruteneering.

done a few patrol roll cages.

External rollcage are you talking about rollbar or exo? Can you do just an exo instead no internal and join that to the rear roll bar? Otherwise like bru21 said, your plan of an internal through rear of cab then mount rear bar to rear bodymounts, instead of external rollcage. Then have a separate rear rollbar on tray. That might get around the internal mounted to body rules for comps.

if i do mount it to the rear body mounts isn't this still not being connected to the body as there is a tray how is it dofferent from mounting the roll cage to the exo which is mounted to the chassis from mounting it to a body mount which is connected to the chassis as well?

There is fairly strict guide lines for how a roll cage is meant to mount to the floor. If you don't build it exactly as specified you'll find you won't pass scrutineering. The public liability insurance is very clear on what they will and won't cover for comps.

why not run the a pillar tubes out through the rear wall then connect them to the hoop and mount the hoop to the botttom of the rear firewall with a tight 90 bend and some big plates. i think however though that the point of an internal is to stop the roof caving in and this won't technically. might have to cut ya old swb body up and put it on instead with an open back. or get your torso shrunk.

what are the measurements for your head to be clear of the roll bar anyone know would it help if i put in racing seats will this lower me down a bit to give more room

racing seats arne't much lower. my saas are the same and they are fixed back. loose the tracks and you can gain 30mm.

so does any one know what the measurements are for your head with helmet on or off

The only mesuraments i found in the CCDA rules on clearance between head/helmet is "In open cars the roll bar shall be a minimum of 50mm above the occupant's head.

then technically i can still put in a roll cage might be a bit tight though close to my head
