Since you got your answer I thought I'd hijack your thread. Hope you don't mind.
What stuff do people do to thier high mounts to prep them for comps.
Things I've thought of so far.
Bracing
Tap in drain and fill plugs for ease of servicing
Fit a 24V or 6HP motor
Replace bushes with Bearings
Fit an air operated free spool
Waterproof the winch
Tap air in/out lines for cooling the motor with an airhorn pump.
Maybe's
extend drum for more rope.
Fit two motors???? Can you change the direction of a winch motor by changing the polarity??
Anything I missed???

Toughnut,
The airhorn pump may be ok for slight pressure to avoid water entry, but if you a serious about cooling (and cooling does help) you want something better.
Some things that you left out.
Retaining brake on shaft
Number plate light shining onto drum for night winching
Stronger intermediate shaft $$$

And use Morey's oil or equiv addy in oil so all stays lubed and oil climbs better.

the short answer is yes - after all if you press the other button on the winch controller, it spools the cable out, right?
most winch motors are universal (series) wound which means the stator armature is in series with the rotor armature. to reverse the direction of the motor, you have to reverse the polarity of one winding relative to the other. this is why there are three terminals on the motor.
so anyway in theory it's possible to put two motors nose to nose and have them spin the same way as you describe.

Fit two motors????
Pics of a GU ute at the Xtreme with twin motor setup on an 8274 as below.

In reality, it seems that two motors don't always work in unison and one will end up acting as a brake on the other.
Have you thought of using a PTO??
Cheers

Maybe not on a Zook, but on a Big Heavy Nissan, good idea.

Here's an interesting moded high mount. Wider, smaller dia drum, larger elect motor and hyd disc brake on drum (operated by clutch pedal in a landrover with auto transmission)

Have you got anymore info on it Tonka.....a mate is looking to build one for his other comp truck. Would be good to know of any pitfalls with setting it up, or things to avoid??
Cheers

1madenginner was looking at building low mount hydraulic winches with line speed and pull capabilities that would blow a highmount out of the water.. maybe PM him for info?
