if its your first time, never do it on your own,
if you get stuck, you have no one to give you a hand/pointer, have another rig out there with you.

do yourself a favour..
Invest in a recovery kit.
Do a 4x4 course or go with an experienced 4wder
Dont be one of those wankers who venture without and endanger themselves and others by venturing out without the proper knowledge of what is to be done in an event of emergency/recovery situation.
Its also bad enough having to use other peoples recovery gear (when they come to assist you) and breaking their straps etc.
Not having a go at you.. just telling you what needs to be looked at firsthand before venturing out for the first time.
Cheers and enjoy the first trip out..

Ok,
thanks for the pointers
i have a problem, which is i don't know anyone in my family or friends who owns a fourby or too afraid to lose their offroading virginity
so will it be okay if i bring couple of mates with me?
Cheers

no it will not be okay, if you take mates, it is extreemly, highly, rcomended that you take another rig with you, who will be helping you if you get in trouble/stuck, what is no one else comes, and like you said, no one you know wants to go off road,
plain and simple, when your on your own, dont do it,

Join the NIssan patrol club??
Also you will need some time to just learn how to drive the Nissan on the road let alone "off" road.
Enjoy your new license and pick up skills along the way.
Ask questions but check the forum headings and ask in the correct forum.

I will be going down Tailors rd in Skye, which is just up the road for you. Last time we went, it was very muddy, with quite deep ruts. Next time should be a bit drier, so should be a bit easier on the cars. If you come, you will be getting recovered, so please bring your own strap. There was a guy in a standard Diesel 60 series and a guy with a standard GQ, both with standard size All Terrains, and they were recovered a fair bit. It is a fun trip, keep an eye out in the Trips & Tracks section.

you wont want to go down it without other cars. it is very rutted, and very muddy. my gq with rear locker, and 35" AT's got stuck once.
in regards to your strap, I am getting one from procomp in narre warren, he gets his own made.
factory locker can be engaged at under 10km/h, by turning the switch. in a few meters the light should light up on your dash. don't drive on the road with it on, or you will break an axle.

Ok,
i'll look at the straps and track (by walking on it not driving) to give me ideas.
Thanks again for diff-lock question
Any other easier track (not have to be local) around melbourne?
Cheers

Seriously, join a club, do a driver training course and do some club drives. Only way to learn. Going out on your own is a recipe for ending up in the sh!t.
