Hey guys
putting back the 3.9 V8 from a Disco SI into my Classic Rangie.
Fast question.
There is this round "cone" on the side of the distributor with a pipe sticking out. I believe it's called a vacuum advance.
Where does the pipe connects too? My mech is not sure and need the advise and better still the pics from the wise ppl of outerlimits..
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

If your mechanic doesn't know, then I would get another mechanic.
If he doesn't know the exact source of vacuum, then he should find out.
It's not that hard.
Vacuum advance is normally "ported vacuum" not "manifold vacuum"
Having never owned an efi vehicle, I reckon it would go somewhere near the throttle body.

It goes on the top of the plenium after the butterfly while it is still quite narrow.

on the Plenum chamber top at intake.
Ps. This mechanic, does he do brakes as well..? I would be wary.

Thank you very much.
Well actually i did tow the car away from the previous mechanic to a friend of mine who's helping to sort out what ever mess done by the previous mech.
So it goes to where that pics u sent.
Once again thanks mate.

Good move.
Sorry for being so abrupt, but your previous mechanic obviously knew nothing about basic mechanics.
Even looking at the photo, there is no other place for the vacuum line.
Best of luck with your friend (who obviously knows more than the mechanic).

Opps looks like it's not so much of a huurah yet.
I just checked out the dizzy on the 3.9 V8 from a 95 Disco. I notice there are 2 parts on the vacuum advance thingy. One facing away from the engine and the other side of it facing towards the engine/ distributor.
Well the one facing the front is plugged into the intake plennum as shown in the pic.
I assume that's right.
So where does the other one goes to?
Pardon me and my poor friend's ignorance.
Just sorting out someone's else mess.....
