Have a look at this page http://www.technologie-entwicklung.de/G ... turbo.html

Has information about a Garret variable nozzle turbo. Near the bottom is an animated giff of the vanes in different positions.

Where many other turbos have a wastegate to control turbine speed and reduce back pressure, the variable nozzle turbo has adjustable vanes to increase the turbine speed at lower engine revs and lower the turbine speed and reduce back pressure at higher engine revs

Yes I'd like to know to as I have a couple of ZD30 variable vane that would be well suited to a RD28T. As it works of vacum, I'm sussing put making it work with pressure. Had some talks with SMC and still waiting to hear back. I'd be keen to see how you get on.

all i wanted to know, is how they actially worked, as i was talking to a bloke the other day, complaining about his ZD30 patrol not driving properly and not hitting boost until 2800 rpm, not a nice figure for a diesel
