Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I'm in the process of building up a coil cab GQ ute - putting a ute cab on my wagon chassis.

Currently preparing the bare ute shell for painting. I'm no expert spray painter, having only painted a couple of army landrovers in "olive drab 'lusterles'" In the case of the landrovers there was minimal preparation done ie a quick rub over with wet and dry and smear grease over anthing you dont want painted.

Basically its army green. The 'lusterless' spec means that a flattening base is added to the paint = no gloss. Very easy to paint and touch up and minor panel imperfections dont show.

I'm thinking of spraying my GQ ute in this color. Would it be a big problem if I ever wanted to sell it in terms of resale? Any opinions on this color choice in general?

i also believe the matt paint is "unroadworthy" if you plan to raod register it...

Wasnt planning on a camo pattern - I think thats going a bit far, just plain 'olive drab'.

Havent heard about the matt paint being unroadworthy, at least not in QLD?

does that mean the whole of the defence forces mogs and rovers etc are un road worthy?

matt paint if fine my 40 is flat black no shine at all passed a roadworthy in september like that

Only if they really believe it makes them radar resistant.

it is to do with visibilty issues not radar detection. Matt black is a roadworthy offence and i know of people getting canaries for it.
As to the colour if you like it go for it, resale shouldn't be a big issue if someone doesn't buy it because of the colour so be it.

Never had an issue with my matt Ex-Army Landdog.

personally i think this colour would look a little average..... i dont mean this offensively and its only my thoughts go a gloss green..... that vy commodore green and if ya got some mates that can 2pk get into it.....

if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing right! make it look very bling and unique and your resale will lift paint it matt and I believe it will look a bit back yardish!!!!

thats my opinion anyway... get it looking great and get a few sponsers..

No offense taken! I'm looking for those type of comments. I feel I can do a reasonable job with this color/type of paint - my worry is that if I try a high gloss paint and stuff it up it will definitly look 'backyardish' And I know I will scratch it and this is easy to touch up. I know two pac would be tough but I dont have the gear or experience to use it.

Im with mark go for a paint thats easy to fix if your going to take it off road because a good gloss paintjob will look good in the begining but after a few touchups it will look like shit (if not done properly) and take my advice dont go metalic because im fucked if i can get it to blend in properly on my touch up jobs always looks a different colour like it has more metal flake or somthing.

A case in point: I went through the same quandary with the lux. Ended up painting it urban camo - base of white with grey and black patches. The panels are very far from straight, every panel has some form of irregularity. The paint I used is satin (low gloss) finish, and hides the irregularities quite well. Very easy to touch up, and washes well also, with no staining from mud or bugs etc. I rattle canned it in the backyard (but yes I have done a lot of painting in a high finish environment in previous jobs). It'll never win a show and shine, but for me the practicality of this finish is unrivalled.

QLD DOT advised that my camo was ok, as long as there were two dominant colours to identify it.

Who cares what the police think, my old car had a carbon fibre bonnet installed and an officer with a big ego said to get the bonnet painted. The returned answer was 'no, it is carbon fibre and doesn't need to be painted'. He tried the whole legal requirements which was bullshit and further investigating through the RTA, you can have any part of the car any colour you want as long as the metal is covered with some form of paint.
