Which Auto, TH400 or TH700?

I have decided to go an auto behind the Chev in my MK, but I am undecided wether to go the 400 or the 700. I have heard the TH 400 is stronger but the TH700 has the advantage of overdrive. It will be mated to a GQ transfer case.
Which should I go and why?
P.S. anyone running 35-36" tyres and 4.6 diff ratios can you tell me what revs you are doing at 100km/h in top gear (i.e 1:1) in an Auto or 4th in a manual.
Thanks

The 700 is basicly a TH350 but with an over drive.
The 400 is by far the stronger box.
Our 80 has a 4 speed auto, 4th being an over drive, we never turn it on as it makes no differance to the fuel but pulls harder on the uphills.

The Turbo 700 has a lower first gear as well as over drive and a lock up converter. And can be built to handle a lot more HP then your Patrol would be making.
The T400 is a Heavy outdated Auto.

I have heard the TH700 has a smaller output shaft and therefore maybe more vulnerable to breaking than 400.
While gearing gains are better does this simple little fact a problem with the 700? Am also considering an auto...

what about the 4L80E? thats a stronger version of the t700, basically a t400 with overdrive? might be a bit costly, maybe cheaper to build up a t700 though.
At 3 grand in 4th with 4.6:1 diff and 35 bfg's i'm doing 100, with the 36" simexes its closer to 105, thats measured with the gps.

Some good info to make your own comparisons here:

Go to the bottom of the page, it has a run down of each tranny.

Thanks for all the info guys. I will probably go with the TH700 judging by all the replies. Now I just have to find one. I think I might go talk to Rodney at Wholesale Automatics as he is just around the corner from work.
