twin fuel tank fillers

when i finally get around to fitting the second tank on my troopcarrier, i would rather use a twin filler behind the single fuel flap(as seen on the 100 series at work). How hard do you reckon it would be to retrofit one of these behind the normal front fuel flap door on my troopie.
The reason is that mine only ever had one tank, and the ol' "cut a square out of the side of yer truck and stick a plastic insert in filler point" looks like a bag of s*%t and an afterthought in my opinion.
can you see any probs with the length of the filler tube from the front to the rear.
Also, which method of fuel transfer have guys found to be the best, as i can't afford a second fuel guage and sender unit and solenoid supply switch at the moment

The transfer is pretty easy, assuming your sub tank is smaller than your main tank. Wait till the main tank gets down on the gauge, below the total amount in the sub, then just transfer from sub to main via an electric fuel pump.
the sub is wayyyyy bigger

thanks mate.
i reckon i will probably have to go with a manual electric pump, but the main tank is 90litres (though i have never managed to get that much fuel in there) and the second tank will be 180litres

not sure about the fuel filler
BUT the fuel transfer shouldnt be a problem using a manually operated electric pump. Just make sure you link up the breather lines with a tee piece that way if you turn your elec pump on and forget about it , the excess fuel wil return to the rear tank via the vent line.
i think the vent line also makes it easier to transfer the fuel between the 2 tanks (fuel from tank2 to tank1 .... air thru vent from tank1 to tank2)
mine is set up that way

Make sure you think about what happens when the tank being pumped into overflows. I have a twin tank setup with a switching solenoid between fuel lines. The Carby return line still goes to the original tank, so if the main tank is low I can "empty" the sub tank via the fuel return in 50km's otherwise it just overflows from the main tank into the sub tank.

If your sub tank is going to be larger than your main tank, why not change things round and make the larger tank your primary one, and the original tank the secondary one. That way, you cant overflow your primary tank. The only extra needed would be a tank sender in the large tank, and either an extra fuel gauge, or just hook it to your original gauge.
great idea

i like the idea of the larger tank becoming the main. PING!!! what a top idea. thanks mate[/quote]
