As of yesterday when I found that the head is gone on the Surf, I have found a low k prado bare long motor (1kz-te) that looks appealing.
Any one know if there are differences between them, if I bolt all my stuff to it (manifolds, pump, injectors etc), should the thing go????
Anyone,
Alec

Hey Dumbdance,
Dont know if the 5L (or 5LE) 3 litre hilux motor is the same as the 1KZ-TE do you by any chance. Just sourced 1 of them for a better price.
Thanks,
Alec

Hey Alec
The 5L is a totaly diff beast its the same block etc as the 2.4 surf and the 3L family and the 1kzte is the same as the aussie 1 as dumbdance said.

When you fit the new head/engine, fit a big-bore exhaust, this reduces the heat build up and should be done to all 2LT and 1KZTE engines to help save the heads.

what bulldoggy said. they are completely different engines. avoid L family engines, they aren't great.
try and get your hands on a 1KD-TE import

The 5L engine is a continuation of the L series of engine which technically wheren ot built to work with a turbo fitted.
However, the 1KZ-TE was built to use a turbo and outputs a fare jump more power than the 5L with or without the little old hair dryer.
The 1KZ-TE being a different engine will require different engine mounts and probably all your other bits in order to fit the SURF. You should probably go with a front cut rather than purchasing a bare motor.
