Dual Batts system- Help Required

Hey all, I've got a dual batt system on my lux, I didn't install it cos it came with it, but Im not entirely sure how to use it properly/ effectively. It has a "CARLEE BATTERY MANAGEMENT AND ISOLATOR SYSTEM" in the cab with a switch that can either be set to auto or manual. I only have one battery at the moment as the other one is dead and I can't afford a new second battery. The main battery is an exide extreme and is 6 months old. For some reason it won't hold charge and is flat after 2-3 days. Now what I want to know is can I simply take off the dual batt lead that connects to the battery and will it be like it was standard or is it more complicated if I want to return it to a one battery system for the moment?? Does anyone have a system like this or understand how to use it??? I think the isolator is trying to charge 2 battery's when theres only one. Help me please as i'm broke and cannot afford an auto elecky.

Only reason removing that cable wouldn't work, would be if you've got things running off your (non-existant) auxillary battery. So check where your second battery would be, and see if there are wires coming off that aren't going to the isolator/primary battery. I'd say you'd be fine, because those auxillary devices wouldn't have been running crash hot without an auxillary anyway.
Just disconnect the cable you are looking at (make sure it is the one that runs from primary +ve to isolator) and give it a go. Should be fine. But then you'd have to change your sig as well
I doubt that will fix much though - the isolator will do nothing if there is no auxillary to drain into. Look at where the cables that should run between the isolator and the auxillary are, and see if they are terminated. Most likely it'll be an open circuit (maybe no cable is there, so it is open at the isolator) and you have little to worry about. Make sure though, that the cable from isolator to (non-existant) auxillary is not flapping around! It could easily make a circuit to ground and really screw your primary (and pretty much everything else).

If the 'good' battery isn't a deep cycle battery and you have been running it flat every few days its probably stuffed. Normal batteries can't handle getting run down too many times.

$25 from Dick Smith will get you a reasonable multimeter. Turn it to Amps. Usually you need to change the lead to the other hole on the unit. Disconnect the +ve lead to the battery. Now place one lead on the battery positve and the other to the cable that is normally attached to the battery. I would probably tape them in place or have a mate hold them. I suspect you will find you get a small reading. Start pulling the fuses out of the fuses box until this reading disappears. This will tell you where your problem is, instead of hiding it. If this doesn't work try disconnecting spotlights and other accessories. Good luck.
