water proofing electricals
water proofing electricals
im building up a maverick at the moment, its a 4.2lt petrol, was just after suggestions and ideas about water proofing electricals like the dizzy and plug leads, should i just go sick with the silicone gun, or are there better ways to do it
I never had any probs with water when I had mine. The original dissy cap has an "o" ring seal under it. If you use good quality boots with internal ribs that seal tight on leads and same for plugs... borrow a lead from auto spares shop and trial fit ends... water wont get in. I also used silicone grease wiped onto contacts in cap so no condensation issues arose.
On very bottom of distrib shaft where it joins block there is a open port. I filled this up and fitted a hose barb, hose and ran it back to firewall to an old petrol filter. On top of cap is a rubber boot breather. I fitted a hose from here to dirty side of aircleaner.
Later I ran a Piranhas electronic ign system to further prevent issue associated with having to remove cap to get to points.
Ensure you lube the top bearing and advance weights with light oil too.
