High Mount Winch Recommendations

Hi all. The bullbar on my patrol is designed to fit a high mount, so I'm just after some information from you guys as to what brand and size i should go for.
I've looked at the warn high mount, but its pulling capacity is a bit of a concern.
My car is an MK wagon, bullbar, sliders, back bar with spare wheel carrier. I also use a roof-rack on longer trips. Just to give you an idea of the weight the winch has to pull if needed.

I think you'll find there is only one "high mount" winch and that is the Warn 8274.
I might be wrong though.
Anyway the 8274's are used standard in competitions to pull GU Patrol wagons and Landcruiser wagons...so the MK Patrol should be ok. If in doubt use a snatch block.

Just cos it is a higmount bar doesent mean you cant fit a lowmount.
pretty sure the bolt patterns are all the same.
And since they pretty much all use the some mounting design. nearly any of them will fit the bill

My mate just got a new 9000lb warn low mount, dont know what model, but it was around the $1700 mark. I tried it in my bullbar and it fits fine, with about 6mm clearance on the winch's motor side (drivers side). So now i've got no frikin idea what i want!!!
Another question - my bullbar has got the fairlead roller mount for the top as a part of the bull bar. Most fairlead rollers i've seen use a whole maufactured plate section with rollers on it. What am i supposed to use/

by Not For Highway Use
I have owned a Hydrolic Ox, Warn 9000lb lowmount, and a Warn Highmount. I have recently fitted 6hp motor. There is no comparison, the highmount is so much earier to use. If you check around you'll get a new low mount for $1400 or less.

If its an ARB bar the assembly slips under the top mount. You remove the side roller pins and replace with long 5/8 bolts that go right thru.

Thanks bazzle. Looks like i'm going to have to keep my eyes out for one. If anyone want to buy my racing go-kart setup let me know. I have to sell it before i can get my winch, tyres and snorkel.
