G'Day, im new to this forum, and i have had a browse through some previous posts but could not find the info that i was looking for (maybe not searching properly) but i was wonder what a reco front diff for a 80 Series is worth and if someone could recommend someone in Melb?
Also if there was anything that i should look out for when arranging the reco diff?

I have another question which i cant seem to find the answer to, i have a center diff lock switch fitted (looks like it came standard) is this only related to locking the front diff?

Any help would be much appreciated as i am just starting to really get into the 4x4 scene.

The centre diff lock switch will only activate the centre diff lock, located within the transfer case behind the gearbox. Of course we are talking about a full time drive 80 series (not DX)? The centre diff lock will only lock the front and rear driveshafts together.

Yes, sorry i forgot to mention that this was a GXL not DX. Great thanks for the info, i could not find anyone or read anything which would tell me exactly what that actually did!

the 80 series uses a hilux diff in the front, keep an eye on the for sale threads, ive seen a few complete hilux centres for sale for as little as $100-$150, might save you a few bucks rather than paying big bucks to have yours rebuilt

Just be very careful with this. The diff ratio of an 80 series is 4.1 whereas Hilux in general in 4.88, 4.5, or 4.3 So unless you are planning on changing the rear ratio as well, this will probably not work. Many people say that the 80 series front diff is a hilux diff. It's the carrier that is the same.

i hav a 80 series recond diff centre and brand new lokka (4wd systems) for sale if u want it. reason for sellin is because i came to tha same conclusion that it would fit wen it didnt

i wouldnt got fittin an auto locker to a full time 4wd, steering will be bear imposible on tar,

you will need to get the 80 series part time 4wd kit as well.

And sorry for my ignorance, but, what are the benefits of having a part time 4WD in a 80 series?
Also can anyone recommend a good CV place in melb, as i need to do them as well, they are noisy when turning left or right.

This is not totaly correct and 80 series front diff can fit into a Hilux but not the other way round as the 80 front diff is Hi Pinion diff and needs to have a Hi-Pinion so as to clear the track rod . A Hilux Diff will fit into a 80 front hounsing and the axles will fit but you can't connect the steering/track rod.

You will need to specify WHERE in Melb.. Its a big place.
