radiators for a 253 v8

guys can anyone tell me how a commodore v6 radiator will go in a hilux with a 253?? its currently got a diesle 4 cylinder one, and doesnt over heat, but no room for a engine fan!!!!

i have been running a thermo for the last 6 months, but this broke the other day, wasnt a davies craig, but i am now weary of thermo fans b/c of endless problems.... (wholes in radiator from rubbiing, electrical difficulties, etc...)

vn radiator is skinny enough to allow an engine fan, so wondering if it will keep the engine cool enough....
someone said the water flow may not be quick enough????

I'd be hesitant, as there is a lot of heat produced, particularly in low range with low speeds, there is not much airflow. I imagine the "diesel Radiator" was out of the 4by, therefore it's probably a three core. A commonbore radiator is probably only two core, and that could make a lot of difference.
When I bought my Pajero, it had a blown motor cause the guy's "stupid bl**dy Wife" cooked the engine (HIS WORDS NOT MINE). Incidentally, after replacing the engine, my car overheated on a highway run. The guy had taken a 6cyl holden radiator (out of the HQ vintage) and put in, because it was cheaper than getting the three core pajero radiator recored (probably by about $300, cause 6cyl Kingswood radiators are about $20 secondhand). Now by the time the engine was replaced, this didn't make the "cheap" radiator all that cheap! So who was the stupid one??

I'd talk to a radiator shop, they should know (particularly if they do a few 4by's), but you might be best getting a new thermo fan (check out the wreckers, nissan bluebirds had thermos standard), and making up some mounting brackets to avoid the chafing etc related to mounting through the radiator.
No Radiator manufacurer will warranty their radiators when "mount through" thermofans are used!

maybe ill just get another thermo???

anyone else got any good ideas

have given up on the v6 rad....

now considering 2 x davies-craig thermos 10" side by side....

wat peoples reckon???

Check out the falcon AU thermo setup and also run a shroud.

My rangie runs a 308 with a commodore vl 3 core radiator, I had some serious heating problems when I first got it, mainly on the highway and climbing hills at 110km, changed thermostats, lowered around town temp but not on highway (specially on hot days), got radiator checked approx 1/2 blocked, new one fitted still problems, drove to tassie fitted make shift shroud and 12" thermo made some difference drove back to sydney with rear of bonnet lifted still got high temps but took about 5 min for car to cool down and back to running temp, fitted new clutch fan $125 runs around town on hot days at approx 81 deg and on highway @ about 90 deg in the bush low range about 80 deg, all I can say is that the v6 radiator should keep it cool as long as it has a good clutch fan and a fan shroud. heat under the bonnet may be an issue though.

Hay mate, to lower your engine temp, have you considered a davies craig elect water pump??? i have a hilux with a 3.5 Rover (holley fed, and a few other mods) and the rover was too long to fit under the hood with the standard 18r radiator, which is preety thin, so off came the fan and water pump shaft. now i run a single thermo mounted to the BODY, not the radiator, with the ewp and it gets to about 80 degs on a long hwy run and around the city and in the bush i have an engine temp of only 50 degs! this is due to having a threm fan pushing 2100cfm of air through the radiator and the ewp running flat out constantly (the ewp can push approx. 80L of water per min apparenty!)

hey guys thanks for all the imput, but it wasnt gettin hot, i just wasnt happy with the performance of the 16" fan and wanted try an engine fan....
but a radiator exp reckons it eill over heat cause not as many cores, and also has plastic tanks which he reckons will break fairly easy.....

sooo...., i ended up getting 2 davies-craig 10" thermos, bout to put em in now, dunno whether to run em side by side or diagonally side by side....

anyway ill let yas know how it goes...
