hi guys, having a bit of trouble with the auto trans,shudders and slips a bit in 1st gear taking of none of the other gears are having any trouble changed the oil and serviced the auto {penrite trans fluid mitsubishi compatable]and put some nulon in it, took about 6 liters out of it.i have a strange feeling my mate a auto mechanic put dextron3 in it a little while ago ,is penrite ok for this auto or do i have to put the genuine suff in it or is it caput help would be apreciated

Hi donald, welcome to OL.
Personally, I know next to nothing about auto transmissions in Pajeros. Sooner or later somebody with a little experience will show up, and you should get some semi-intelligent answers.
In the meantime, a little more info about your Paj would help - age, engine, transmission code if you know it?
Have a read of the tech info thread near the top of the Mitsubishi section, and also try searching - you can select only the Mitsubishi section, to help narrow down the responses.

It is quiet possible that the solenoid for first gear is at the end of its life. It may be worth checking the fault codes to see if anything pops up.
The solenoids dont usually cost that much, however you need to service the tranny at the same time, so does end up costing a bit.
Its worth taking a look at.

heres one for ya, put the trailer on does not slip take it of and slips and shudders[only a little bit but noticeable]ran a diagnostic code test on it useing temp light as indicator seemed to be alright light flashed evenly so is there anythingin the drive line that would do this on these pajeros

If you're worried about contaminated fluid, try changing it again? If it really was the wrong stuff in there a good flush might be needed to remove it all.
If the problem is load sensitive I'd be looking at fluid levels too - I imagine too high could create as many problems as too low.
You now say "only a little bit but noticeable" - any chance it's getting better (which could suggest it was a fluid/contamination problem, which another fluid change could help...)

Thats a good point. Dont forget when they flush the pan, the convertor is still full of fluid, so your not totally removing all fluids.
However you can connect a pump to the tranny cooler pipes to totally pump in 100% new fluid. If you overfill the pan the fluid will start to froth and this is very bad for the auto in terms of increased heat due to more friction. Heat is the number one death of automatics.
Take it to an automatic specialist and get them to check the solenoids and flush the fluid completely. Its better to spend $200 or whatever now, than 2-3k when it dies of premature failure :(

pretty happy at the moment, it stopped slipping must have been the flush and new filter was not looking to putting out 4 grand for a recon,by the way is ther a ajustment for the bands on this box or am i getting another tall story from a mechanic anyway thank u for the help i have learned a little bit about autos out of this
