I am going to fly in to purchase a 4x4 soon in Melbourne. I do not know Melbourne very well and i was after some advice on where in Melbourne the better car yards are for 4x4's.
I would like to purchase an early's 90 nissan, but may buy a crusier if the deal is right.
any info would be great...

your best bet is took on the net before you come over, find what your looking for ask for pics and more pics.

if your like what you see and happy with the price take it to a reputable mechanic or 4x4 specialist ask for an inspection then come over.

Check out http://www.tradingpost.com.au. Often some good buys in there. That goes for any state.

When and if you are convinced you have found the right 4b there is a mob called 4x4alert that do a full onsight check on your vehicle .the bloke is good and saved us from buying a stolen /recovered vehicle $150--$200 well spent.and gives you a warrenty on his advice.

Just an idea.

I am located in Melb. If you are after a modified Truck buy one from Sydney. They usually have enginers Certificates for any mods. Also in Vic we have a lot of mud and heaps oportunity to drive in it. Check out 4sale posts on outerlimits also.

NSW engineers certificates are not valid in other states, so modified trucks will need to be re-certified in your state.

Not after a 4x4 with a lot of mods, and I will not be driving the 4x4 in Victoria.
I live on King Island in Tassie and needs a 4x4 to launch my boat on the beach for when I go diving.

to much distance to travel before the beach, and most of the beachs here have a lot of rocks to get over to get on them also.

As others stated i'd avoid the dealers as most of their trucks are overpriced poison and concentrate on private. What's the budget for this purchase as i have a 89 diesel gq wagon i am looking to part with{need a ute} but either way i'd go private over dealer. I sold my last truck to Drfrankenstein off this board in tassie, he flew over, i met him at the airport, did the deal and then he kicked on at the casino with some mates for the night before hopping on the boat back to tassie first thing in the morning. Too easy ;) . Good luck with your search.
