Heat and sound proofing

I am chasing some material that will reduce sound and will keep cabin heat down in my SWB GQ Patrol. Did anyone see roothies column in 4x4 monthly a while back about carpet underlay that was heat resistant and sound proofing? a mate lent my issue and has not returned it!!!!!!

I've just had the same problem with my rangie, as I only had 10mm rubber mating the noise and heat were extreme, I rang trufit carpets in melbourne and they make a sound and heat proofing material which is 4wd friendly, it has to be made up and comes in a sheet 1500x1000mm, rough cost $74 delivered to your door. So far i'm happy with the product the noise has dropped and the heat isn't anywhere as bad.

With a super quite cabin how will you know when somethings wrong?

Get more heat out of the engine bay.....
Bonnet vents to let hot air up & out.
If you've got an auto how about a bigger transmission cooler or a bigger pan.
You COULD wrap the exhaust - but unless you've got a stainless exhaust it might cause it to rust out sooner......so maybe getting the heat coated might be an idea.....
Carpet's not a bad idea.....but you could also try paint in insulation like Herculiner (waiting for the Hootus jokes).....
As for noise - well how about tracking some of 'em down and fixing......ie if you've got roof racks remove 'me when not needed, give it a nice grease & oil change, check and tighten yer nuts down to torque spec....etc.....Heck you couls even consider samller side rear vision mirros to help bring the noise down.....
Oh yeah things like sheep skin seat covers can help capture noise.
Even simply rotating the tyres can help where they might have developed wear patterns.

Your right about little things like seat covers.
I took all the rear seats out of the 80 the other day and the noise went from nothing to a fair amount.

try and get closed cell foam for insulation- the problem with the felt stuff is the water retention when wet can cause rusting and also a nice stale smell if not aired out properly- the rust point is particularly relevant if you are going to attach insulation on the engine side of the firewall to stop heat and sound.
