hey guys
need some assistance desperately. have attempted a engine conversion in my 85 drover (suzuki sierra) with a 1.3 twin cam gti motor. having problems with the wiring. was told that we need a speed sensor, is that true? the motor currently will not fire. getting power everywhere except to the coil to fire the motor does anyone have an idea what could be happening?

The speed sensor shouldn't affect the engine firing.
The 12V power to your coil positive should be switched in via the ignition switch (possibly via a relay?) and should be there all the time with ignition ÖN"and in the "START" position while cranking.
Possibly try rigging up a separate wire to the coil for now to see how that changes things?

have you got the whole wiring loom from the gti?

have the complete gti wiring loom but am using an extra shortened down version to eliminate a lot of the crap not needed. also have the wiring diagrams for the engine wiring for the gti motor and according to that everything is right. but it still won't fire.
are there any other possible suggestions?

Have you fixed it so you get power to the coil +ve? There's no way it will run until you do.
I fitted a Delco system to a Charade turbo engine once and did the same thing- forgot the positive feed to the coil because it wasn't shown in the EFI wiring diagrams...

Who determined what crap isn't needed?
As an example: on my grandfather's VL Commodore the fuel pump won't run if the crank angle sensor doesn't see the crank turning. So when the sensor fails, no fuel pressure - as an ex-mechanic, that frustrated the hell out of him.
Is your "speed sensor" an "engine speed sensor?" Perhaps it won't fire if it doesn't "see" the engine turning?
Not trying to insult here, but try some of the ricer sites? You'll probably find a lot more people with experience with your motor.
Good luck,
Scott

Speed sensors in EFI systems are usually a magnetic pickup for road speed. Most cars use the speedo pickup and then divide the pulses down. The worst I could see not having one working is logging a fault code, the engine should still start.
The VL crank angle & pump interlock would be a safety feature- you crash and the engine stalls..... if the pump continues pumping and there's a ruptured fuel line you'll end up in an inferno very quickly! Most EFI cars have a similar set up and look for pulses from the coil pick up or something similar- if they don't see them the pump will time out in a couple of seconds and shut the fuel flow off.
