Should I go 35's on the TJ?

Thinking about going 35's, currently 33's. I have a 4.5" Rubicon system, 4.56 gears, I have a short shaft SLE and carden joint. Probably need a 2"bl to fit? are they easy? legal in QLD? will it ruin my already bad economy and sap heaps of power? is the rear wheel carrier strong enough? are front diff and cv ok? , being the same width as 33's will the truck be heaps less stable on dodgy angles when rock crawling?

should you go to 35's? up to you ultimately!
what do you use the jeep for? do you wheel it hard? are you prepared for breakages? these are determining factors for longevity of diffs.etc (btw no CV's in a jeep - try U joint)
35's will fit on the RE 4.5 (changing to longer bumpstops.etc - really depends on use and amound of desired flex) and with 4.56 the gearing should be fine... what year model? auto/manual?
i suprised that you even consider the rear carrier for a 33 let alone a 35... it would die pretty quick.
larger tyres are generally for axle clearance and if you don't change your suspension then you are only really going 1" higher, so not heaps less stable, all depends on the driver and how hardcore you're willing to go
p.s your 33's aren't legal so

Cheers mate this makes my decision a little easier. It is a manual 98 model and I reckon is still too tall for rock crawling with 33's and 4.56. I would not say I wheel it to the extreme but you dont own a jeep to drive around the streets do ya! It does get driven reasonably hard and I do not what to be breaking things. I have had the 33 on the back for years now without problem so maybe I am driving like a pussy. Do they break? and what do you guys do with your spare?

Not so much the mount breaks (though the door will sag eventually) but you may not be even fit the 35 to the door cos it will hit the rear bumper. My 33x10.5 only just touches the rear bumper with 15x7 3.75 BS rims.
cheers

Tyre will fit with no problems if you use one of these
http://www.jbitz.com.au/product.php?id=3
Lex also does a lift bracket from memory that lifts the standard mount up.
The only other thing to then look at is maybe sinking the tail lights. Easy job to do too.

What rear axle are you running? I am building another TJ now that has the R.E. long arm kit with the new 7" coils. We will be adding a front High Pinion Dana 44 soon & a rear Ford 9". 5.15's & a Detroit in the rear to start with. The tire we will end up with on the jeep will be 39.5" swampers.

I've been running 35 mtrs and 34 swampers with 4.56's in stock diff housings (detroits in both) for a while now with no probs (if you count 1 bent rear axle and 2 unis). Recenyl upgraded to a Clayton LA but was running 4" Short Arms with 1" BL with *slight* contact to flares but nothing else under full flex.
It gets comp and rec use. 35's and 4.56 is a cood combo. Still better than stock and sits on 2500rpm on the highway at 110kmh.
do it

If you are running 35's I strongly recommend you do not get a jbitz rear swingaway to carry it.

If you or someone you know has our product as is not happy with it then I will do everything I can to help them through thier problem.
You are of course entilted to your opinion and I am the first one to admit we have had a few problems with some of our carriers. We are a company that stands behind what we make and will gladly work through any problems that may have developed.

I have several customers running 35s and claws seem to be the perfect on/offroad combo. For offroad go IROKs 36s or 34 LTB swampers
The fellas at Jbitz will go that extra distance for customer service and beyond if there is some hicup in addition they are an Aussie company doing great things for the jeep community.

It is constructive towards the question because if he want to run 35's and gets the rear bar recommended then a reasonable person would assume he would consider the swingaway carrier as well at some point in time for various reasons.
I am not here to slag anyone off. I do not know anything about their customer service; I was commenting on what I had seen. It is good to see there is a strong positive feedback on their customer service.

I've run the jbitz rear bar for a few years now, and when i had a problem i found jbitz were more than helpful in fixing the problem.
Have been running 35 on the rear carrier with no worries for quite some time now and i'm very happy with it.

Turps, Poor design and materials. The reason is that it was not capable of carrying a 35" tyre.
