Was having a look at the Mazda KL engine 90 amp alternator and I reckon it should fit but noticed it had a 2 wire plug while my Vit has a 3 wire plug. Anybody done this swap know what to do wiring wise?

after killing vitara alternator 5 or 6, possibly even 7 last wekend. i think i need to do the same.

Apparently you can adapt one of the commodore alternators that has a fan setup that does not drag mud inside?

ive got myself a 65 amp pajero one, didnt realise i needed to connect up other wires
a sparky mate said i only needed the main power wire coming off, maybe diff alternators need different things.

what car is the alterntor off. sounds nice

Go for a Falcon EL 105 amp alternator--so straight forward! 5 minutes with a flat file inside one leg of the alternator and it fell onto the Zook bracket. Replace the 20 amp original fusible link with a 50 amp one and you're cruisin'. This unit has an electronic regulator which is a lot more clever about how it recharges the battery(s). I have 700w out front and it copes easily. Good luck.

That sounds like a plan. Are they Bosch ones? Any particluar model EL?

Would the gl 6 pack one be the same.

cheers for the info.

I've heard that the EL alt is the same as the AU. Also heard that they're the same but the mounts differ.

Can anyone confirm if the AU will fit? They're probably easier to source.

I am running an 85amp alternator out of a Suzuki swift 1.6, the only thing to remember when you install this is to take all the brackets off the motor also.

So grab the swift brackets and than they mount straight to the Sierra location??

II just took my alternator to an auto elec and had them rewind it (or whatever they do) and its now about 120amp

Re-winding is good but the actual working capacity is about 22.5% and they will only comfortably charge with the engine over 2000RPM.

Also they can suffer from limited life span after doing this.

As for the brackets, not 100% sure about sierra blocks, but I know it will work in a vit.

has anyone mounted their alternator (on a Vit) higher on the motor than standard?

I keep filling mine with mud, i've found that they don't like it.

With the EL one. Is this a vbelt and not a muti v the same as a sierra?

cheers

Mine is a Mitsubishi but many were Bosch. They were 105 amp. or 108 amp. respectively. they come with a multigroove pulley but any self-respecting sparky will be able to find a a V- belt pulley to suit. Mine needed to have a collar machined off the back-5 minute job! Don't worry about 80 amp alternators, go for the biggest you can. Winches and a bank of Lightforces suck current big time! I paid $90.00 and that is typical.
