Buy a GU front diff first. Then you get to use the locker heaps more. Do you want supply or supply and install?

this may be a dumb question but why do i need a gu front diff to use the locker more?

id be keen on either supply or supply and install..just a kick ass deal. i have a general rule..never pay retail for anything... :D

Because if you've got a respectable amount of power and use it in anger, you tend to break CV's when front locker is engaged......so in some people's experience, you get nervous and use your front locker less often, as you don't want to smash CV's or hubs.

yeah i have heard this actually..must be still asleep.. but i was thinking this was a reverseing under full power issue.. i thought they would handle some stick forwards...whats the general consensus??

with front locker in:

dont use heaps of power
dont land with heaps of revs after lifting the front wheels off the ground
dont jump around on rocks with revs
dont give it heaps of revs at full lock.
preferably take front locker out when reversing (cvs break easier in reverse)

thats my thoughts when i use mine, although i have broken "my" rules a fair few times, but i havent done a cv yet  but it will happen.

GU fronts are heaps stronger and cvs are bigger so they break less, lots of guys like birdy and cassar run gu fronts in their comp rigs for strength and i know of a few people putting GU fronts in their GQ's too. something that might be on the cards in the future.

also the more power, the more likely they will break!

If you can afford it, go the whole hog and get all the GU steering links, steering box etc too.

there is a GU front for sale at the moment on OL for 1950, i think that price is roughly the going rate for a GU front, have been quoted 500 for installation.

Cant do you a deal but Ive had Airlockers in the front of GQs (Mavs) for about 8 years and only broken 1 axle.
Big wheelspin, tyre in air dropped down, click, RH axle broke.

I dont drive real easy but use a bit of thought when accellerating, climbing over rocks etc.

there are people out there trialing modded GQ cvs .... it just a question
who what where and when they're gonna be available

Posted: Fri Mar 25, 2005 9:35 pm
by not not
Try giantracing he has some pretty beefed up GQ cvs for 130.00 a pc and has them fitted to his truck and mate he gives it some stick
I myself havnt as yet broken one with my front locker but if i do ill be grabing giants ones Smart driving over the 2000 dollers for gu diff is better
Agree with rod also slotted rotors are awsome
