Just curious, what are the best mods you have done to your GU...to make it a better tourer... in order of priority?

Can you be a bit more specific, like do you want to run bigger tyres, big lift or keep it stock. Best mod is probably a fridge   . If you know what you want then we can help.

You said tourer so heres my list, in order:
Tyres - quality AllTerrains
Cargo Barrier
Suspension - better load carrying and handling, with more clearance - 50mm is plenty
Roo bar and spotties
Air comp and tyre repair kit
Comms - UHF minimum
Second battery and fridge

Depending on where you're going and who with you can add if necessary:
Winch
Snorkel
MT tyres
Lockers
etc.

Have a look at the link to my website in my sig below, and also the Patrol Forum link.

I also have 4.2td (2000 mdl) and have roof rack , uhf, mp3 stereo, cargo barrier, 3 " lift, castor correction bushes, crap alloy wallaby bar, pyrometer, safari intercooler, 3" exhaust including dump pipe. From my experience the exhaust made the biggest improvement, nearly a full gear better up hills + better economy, closely followed by the suspension, the std shocks on mine at 73000 k's when I got the car were rooted.

Forgot dual battery and fridge both also pretty important and snorkel and front diff lock. Started getting a bit casual on Fraser island and drove into what looked like a puddle only to watch the bonnet disappear and come straight back out the other side luckily. This was before I had the snorkel and going by the splutter the engine gave I nearly pucked it. The diff lock made life easy in the sand too.

Bull Bar for safety
If your doing a big trips how imporant is it to buy a fridge or can you borrow from a mate.
If you heading big bush by yourself a winch maybee...UHF or HF radio for outback
Suspension is important, and tyres.....well dunno about tyres as I recently completed a 11,000 k trip trough Cape York with Motorway remould tyres and had no problems.
The best mod I've enjoyed is the 3" mandrel bent exhaust & turbo/fuel mods......heaps more power.
