Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Being new to all the wheel/tyre stuff for 4x4's I was wondering how the system works as its not the same as passenger cars/perfomance cars etc

I see tyres advertised ie 265x10.5x15 etc but the 16 inch wheels are advertised differently??

I know how all the measurements and percentages work etc but I am looking for what wheels fit on what rims and getting confused

The wheels i have at the moment are 16x??? fitted to my DC triton ute
I would like to fit the biggest tyres that i can to the truck but am unsure how bigger tyre i can fit to the current rim the rims are the steel six spoke ones sorta like patrol steel rims

Ultimatly i would like to get a set of triton alloy wheels or paj rims but i cant seem to find many sets for sale at reasonable prices or that would suit my ute and I am asuming 15's wont fit if it came with 16's?

the other question is obviously offsets are a big thing with live front end as compared to IFS and having IFS i am asuming if i do get 8 inch wide wheels (presume i need at least 8inch to get to 32's) will they actually fit

I havn't had a chance to go to many wheel places or actually have it looked at to see what can and cant fit I thought i might post it up here and some one might be ble to steer me in the right direction

if it were 100mm of the ground, rubber band tyres and big rims and independent suspension all round it wouldn't be a problem as i have been in low cars for some time but now that I'm coming up in the world everthing changes!!

btw only body mods i want to do are a 2 inch body lift and raise the front on the torsion bar as the front sits down a fair way other than that just fitting the factory flares to it, I don't want big tyres that are going to give me greif for day to day hacking but i would like to do alot of beach and that sort of stuff

That depends on the hardware behind the rims (calipers, tierod ends and so on).

It will all depend on backset and offset. My stock rims are 6", my play rims are 8". The difference is the inside of both rims are almost the same (within 2-5mm) but the outside of the play rims extends another 45mm odd. This is more than a nissan rim but not as much as a toyota.

Larger rims will give you more clearance. Tyres mounted on a 16" rim will have less sidewall flex than the same od tyre mounted to a 15" rim due to less rubber

ok had a good look at the tyres that are currently on it atm

(pirelli scorpions or something to that effect?) they are 205x16's on i think 6,6 1/2 inch rims not quite sure

if i can keep the standard rims its a bonus just wondering how much of a bulge you can have in a tyre ? just want to fill it out enough so it doesn't look like i have cheeze cutters under the flares!!

also if anyone knows of any good sites to have a look at for wheels other than roh and the other one that does the steel sunrasia's let me know!!

If it a 6x16 rim you can go to a 235 wide tyre.

go and ahave a chat in person with ryan at fourby's marooka then you can see with your own eyes the options and mention my name and he'll look after you... & he knows his sh#t...
