you have to get a blue slip if it has been out for more than 3 months.

Everthing has to work.
everything that is "MODIFIED" has to have a engineers report.
I got knocked back once for a number of things one of which included interior light not having the plastic cover over it.
Just make sure all your steering is spot on, brakes , lights , seatbelts arn't frayed, steering wheel is ok(cant twist outer on inner) if the seats are ratty put a cover over them,...etc etc etc.
ask around who is the most leinient.
if they fail you they have to send a copy of the report into the rta so you cant just take it elsewhere.

man its a whole lot of work if you dont know an engineer.

ring the RTA or checkout their website it tells it all.

but i had a mate try to do that and cost him alot of $$ and time.
wrong mirrors, no sun visors etc etc. went on for ages.

might be better off buying a more shit one with rego and swapping it all over??

If its all stock just make sure it all works is clean and looks like something that isn't going to turn into a rust-bucket. Should go through easy, just don't give them to pick you on. Things like seatbelts they have to not pass, steering etc.

If it's all stock it should be pretty easy, I've done it several times but not with a 4by. Basically the older the vehicle the less things to check, my current 62 Beetle went through in about 10 minutes and thats with it lowered and with several other mods. Even my 69 Beetle went through quite quickly as they only do a visual check for pullutants etc, if its post 74 (I think thats right) they stick a sniffer in the exhaust and things start to get tougher but if it's in good tune then it's no worse than the annual registration check we have in NSW.

As an example my 62 got through with no sun visors (not required), no rear seat belts (not required) and numerous other things you would expect to need, it just needs to meet the requirements of the year of manufacture.

Cheers
