Hi everyone,
I have a 91 Mav wagon that at the moment runs straight petrol, (was a choice I made when I only drove it on weekends in the bush).
I now have a new job and have moved from Melbourne to Corryong (450km NE of Melbourne). I am trying to decide what to do with the car, Its set up pretty well with lockers and long range tanks, winch and all of the other bits and pieces ( I like the car a lot still). The problem I have is driving to and from Melbourne, Would I be better putting it on gas (a second hand kit from a wreckers costs about $500 to $600 plus fitting) and what sort of fuel efficiency would I get out of it , it has electronic ignition and 2 1/2 exhaust with extractors already. or should I bite the bullet, sell it and buy a diesel, I want to spend as little as possible on the change over so I figure my car is only worth about $9000 if that. Diesel is around $1.25 a litre here at the moment.

What do people suggest.

LPG is the go. If you can afford to change over to a diesel why not just buy a little run around.

The reason I arn't that keen on a little run around is two regos, two insurances and to get something reasonably comfortable you need to spend a bit anyway, Besides there is heaps of 4x4ing around here but long distances and I will probably need something capable over winter in the snow on the roads.

imho as a diesel gq owner i'd recommend keeping it and putting it on lpg, with the cost of diesel nowadays gas definitely wins out as a highway runner. my diesel averages 13l per 100k @ $1.25 a litre that works out to $16.25 to drive 100k's on diesel compared to lpg consumption of around 23l per 100k on gas{i used to have a gq on gas} @ 40cpl works out to $9.20 per 100k on gas plus you get the extra power of the petrol motor on the hills ;)
