Aftermarket seats

Post by GQ Toy »

Chasing info on different types ie Paratus, Stratos etc or import seats from sports cars. Peoples experience and what they have in their own vehicle.
Any info appreciated
Cheers

I put a pair of SAAS seats in mine last year. Got mine from the Trading Post. A bit of a hassle fitting, but well worth it. Watch some of the cheaper seats thaat are popular with the "ricer" set, very small across the back if you're a larger type person.

I have a set of sparco's in my road car

Good quality well built etc and adr/dot approved

They are well aove the ricer stuff but at a reasonable price expect to spend around 600 a seat new for one thats fixed back
reclining are expensive in the sparco range

Maybe saas or cobra might be the go if you want reclining seats?

as with most things seats have to be engineered so probably best to buy a set of seats that are adr approved to get you strait past the engineer no worries!

When i had my roll cage and seats engineered for my road car it was a peice of cake as i had the paper work for relivent adr's and all the build info and certification for the cage!

Buy the best you can afford! you never know when your going to need a good seat! not many good pics of mine on the net atm but a few might be of use?

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/206726/1

the pics do show how much head and shoulder support the seats give though!!
unlike the nastier cheaper ones that dont go up as far

I got a sports seat Direct from Japan, it only cost me $230 inc post, i dunno what brand it is ATM, but it is a good addition to your 4 wheeler coz they hold you a lot better in the ruff stuff. and you can fit harnesses properly, which is another great feature.

I have paratus in the truck, recaros in the shed waitin to go in, and had a set of 'recaro' type cloth in my rodeo yrs ago...

Got all 3 pr's for bargains, but the way to go is from an Import.

Also depends on what its going into as to what to get them out of.

Try to avoid those the cheaper ricer seats which are now being readily advertised. In my experience they are not very sturdy and break quite easily, and that is in a road car. Pretty much what the others have said is on the money though. With seats I believe its a case of you get what you pay for when buying new.

I picked up a set of Recaro's from some import wreckers for $160.

They were a piece of cake to install in the 4Runner using the original mounts.

A mate is recovering them for $100 a seat, so brand new recaro's installed for $360, bargain!!

Cheers for the info. I am a larger person ~100kg so looks like ricer seats are out. Most of the 'good' brand seats I am looking in the range of 1100- 1800 each incl mounts. Wreckers are PITA as I am 700 km from a good range of them - not keen buying over the phone.

Just remembered I think the local wrecker is in some group, he may be able to source some.

Thanks again

I bought some after market race seats and used paratus bases. They bolted straight in and the bases come certified. All you need is a compliance plate. :P

You mean the top spec Surf Recaros?
GQ Toy wrote:I am a larger person

Me too :)
How are the surf recaro seats in width for my big fat ass?
Also do they have the tilt and slide mecanism so people can still get into the back?
Im thinking of getting some better seats for my extra cab Lux and maybe chucking the old seats from the lux into my zook.
