Hi all,
I have seen these things advertised and they look like a good idea:
http://www.fastlane.com.au/4WD-OffRoad/ ... Treads.htm
Has anyone any experience with this type of device?
I would think they could be pretty useful in sand and mud but I wonder if the plastic ones would fold up under the wheels.
I have also seen guys in the Outback Challenge carry long metal skids, particularly the european entries. Would the metal ones be better?
Any alternatives?
thanks...

my folks lived in PNG for 20 odd years, and had a lot of probs with mud due to tropical rain all the time....a week with out rain was a drought.
They esed the old matting that they used in WW2 for tempory airprts, and had several lengths whee ever they went and couldn't do with out it.....I have also heard of carrying a couple of strips of old carpet to do the trick as well. I would say that it would work well, but have not seen it used so try it report back

C'mon guys, let me know if you are using any other alternatives...
I like the shadecloth idea, but I would have thought it would get dragged under.
I have not seen anyone selling the ramps that the OBC guys are using.
