I have been having trouble with the auto flaring into top gear.I actually got under the truck and relised it has the rover box in it rathe than the turbo 400 i was told.Has anyone else have a similar problem or had and been able to fix it. I did find a Kick down cable wound up under the car which I have reconnected but it didn't seem to help.

Sam,
I have had zero to do with autos rangies.
AFAIK (maybe FA):
Before autos were a factory option some peeps fitted them aftermarket.
Later, autos (TorqueFlite?? not sure) were option in Aussie built rangies only - before UK or anywhere else.
Then Borg Warner with chain driven trnsfer case. Later models had ZF with rover LT230 tranfer case.

Sam,
If it is a ZF box, the kick down cable does more than kickdown.
Prime use is to shut some valves to increase the operating pressures.
At idle the have about 15 psi when you excellerate the valves closes increasing pressure on clutches giving drive (something like that).
Hook it up to the throttle or you wil damage auto, will stripp all clutches I KNOW. HOW do I know Just DID IT.
Full cable extension = full throtle.
Good luck.
Michael.

I did reconnect the cable and adj it but it still slips so maybe the damage has already been done it is a ZF BOX.

G'day,
Sam it's not a ZF box, it's a TorqueFlite (I believe) as it's a 3 speed Auto, ZF's are 4 speed. The Transfer case could be a modified LT95 one, but I am thinking it is a LT230 (I need to look at it again to be sure) which has the adaptor that is usually between a R380 and LT230 to bolt the Auto to the transfercase.
