I have an 89 model 1.6L carby vitara

when it was more stockish i would get less than 10L per 100ks, even when flogging the nuts off it it wouldnt get over 15L/100ks

with the 33's around 15L/100ks is more normal...

I used to get 9-10l/100km when it was stock.

That's hardly pumping fuel through.

Obviously bigger rubber takes mroe effort. Expect similar economy to a similar sierra in most conditions... there's not much weight difference.
