fox airshox question.

kinda a longshot this one.
i am getting a set of 2.0" airshox soon.
i am building the diffs now to suit(a-frame and 5 link.)
i know the ends use a 1/2" i.d. spherical bearing.
i dont know how wide the spherical bearing is and how wide the supplied spacers are.
i'm kinda hoping somebody can tell me how far apart i need to make my mounting plates for the shock. i just want to get all the brackets finished and painted. and it will be a few weeks till i get the shocks.

Ive got a few 2.0 Shocks at work. I will try and measure this for you over the weekend.

But ive heard these cannot be engineered?

I cant realy see why not. Airbags are legal and these realy are not that different to Airbags.
If an Airbag goes flat the vehicle sits on its Bump stops. If the Airshock goes flat it also sits on the Bump stops.

Technically you could engineer them but engineers like to see mechanial means (ie springs) of suspending vehicle weight

I found out a importer in victoria but was wondering if anyone may import into brizzy ( maybe haltech )

We have a heap of them but dont import them or re-sell them. Contact Mat or sean at M&M Custom engineering/ABT

thanks ruff, that would be a great help.
i have been told that engineers don't like airshox as a means of holding the weight of a vehicle. however they are fine to be used as a damper. if you were to try engineer them i have been told you can just add a coil spring of an insignificantly small spring rate to give you that "mechanical means" this really defeats the purpose of an airshock though.
i was bemused by the fact that rover uses airbags. but airshox are not legal. personally i would have thought a balloon(airbag) would be less reliable than an airshock which requires a seal to give out. a seal would more likely leak and slowly loose pressure, wheras an airbag might burst???
just my 2c worth.

they're available, sean at ABT sells them, a mate of mine has a set going onto his cruiser as we speak

edit-> as for not much talk about them, i dont really no why, guess cause noone is really using them out here yet, even though many of the yanks seem to prefer them to the fox shocks (the first version at least, not the 2.0)

I think you are better off waiting until you get the shocks. Then you can make the mounting plates, bolt them up to the shocks, set the rig at ride height, set the shocks at ride height and just weld them in.
I wouldnt weld the mounts onto the axle until you had the axles in the rig and the shocks ready to go cause you will fark up for sure.
