i think he means to use the 1lt gears to get lower gearing

yeah but only late model 1lt cases bolt in, early ones require modification
I would also be interested to know if this works!

early 1.0 cases have different input and output shafts to the later ones, so therefore you cannot interchange the flanges, like you can with late 1.0litre and 1.3 cases...... but the early 1.0 cases are the same bolt pattern on the flanges as the late 1.0 cases, so therefore the whole case can bolt in, if you use 1.0 litre ends on your tailshafts and jack shaft.
Or redrilling holes, which I don't recommend.
As the unis are same size on 1.0 and 1.3 you can use entire tail/jack shafts, just interchange half the end bit (1.3 are external clips and 1.0 are internal clips)
photo shows my 1.3 engine/box into 1.0 jackshaft conversion, but idea is the same
I dont believe gears from an early 1.0 would fit into a 1.3 case, because theres too many different bits, but I dont know fer sure....
I'm using an early 1.0 case in my late model 1.0 sierra, and it did bolt straight in.
I believe wt cases have different bolt pattern to 1.3 nt cases, but I think ??? the unis are the same and I think ??? the flanges interchange ???

was wondering if the gears would fit in the newer case as the older ones dont have the 4x4 switch. and this is because i want lower gearing but are not allowed to spend the $$$ to get rockhoppers
(looks like wife doesnt get any jewlery this year either
)
it seems very hard to get a cheap late model 1ltr t/casewith the 4x4 switch where as the earlier ones are everywhere.

I doubt you would get the 4wd light switch to work anyway, as it needs the parts in the newer case, so I see no win in all that work. I have a mate who had a rockhopper fail because it had a wrong gear from an early t-case into a late one, lost his warrantee, too, so I am guessing it just cant be done..
I used an early t-case for financial reasons, too.
I just have to tell myself when I put it in 4wd
the gearing reduction is worth the effort.

Hi, just wondering about the effect of a 1L TCase in a 1.3 NT. Do you get a reduction in High range gearing as well?

yes, its around 12% reduction in high and low range...
enough to compensate for bigger tyres

so i guess the best option is to keep looking for a late 1ltr t/case as all that will need to be done is swap the flanges over. Also will have to get a NT front half or the rear tail shaft so i can use the H/B for the disc conversion. looks like i will have a spare NT t/case as i wont need the one i got as a spare.
