Aren't they about to be made redundant soon by something else taking over their frequencies?

theres going to be no take over of 27meg (hf) frequencies and the best value for money and reliability is the uniden ax144 its not a new radio but its a good one, you could definatley get one for less than $100 for a very very clean one, also theres a crap load of people who know how to repair them if something goes wrong. dont be suckerd in to buying any newish type hf radio as they are a throwaway when something goes wrong! for 4wding as far as radios are concerned having a tuff radio that stays on frequency a doesnt die with the slightest pothole is prety important as it could possibly get help where theres no UHF or mobile phone reception!

Some want to introduce broadband (internet) over normal power lines.

If it comes about it will substatially interfere with HF and the lower VHF radio.
