Just wanting to know if it is safe/legal to run 33" BFG muds on 15X7 (standard GQ) suny rims?

Not to sure if its legal or not, but i have heard of quite a few people running 33" x 12.5 muddies on 7" rims.

as above not sure on legal part id say 33s on most cars would be why out off the normal size ratings by manufacturer which is where the size of the tyre you put on is classsed as legal or illegal(if you can figure out what i mean ) but have seen it done looks funny cause tyre bulgers out differant than an 8 inch rim

4wd Tyre place suggested that my problem with tyre beads popping under low pressure conditions was due to narrow rims for the size of tyre. 33x10.5 I would feel ok with but 12.5 ??????????????

ran 33 12.5 mtrs on 7 inch rims for like 6 months with no problems.. tyre does buldge a bit in the side wall, looks cool ahaha.. dnever had troubles with rolling beads off at lower pressures.. as long as u keep them sensable.. although if u think of it a 7 shouldnt come off as easy as an 8 because the rim is squesed tighter on the bead.. duno if this is fact or fiction but have read about it on here some place..

save your penneys for 8 or 10 inch rims maybe, but for now the 7's should be any worries

Thanks slayer, just getting some second hand ones for road use, going to put them on the orignal rims and get a set of more bigger aggressive tyres for play with new rims.

isnt it the opposite narrower rims should keep the tyre on at low pressure. ??

within reason yes but you change the contact angle if overly narrow and hence easily roll of....... 8's for my patrol with cruiser offset were $50 (ROH) new so id just by a set...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm under the impression most x12.5's tyres cant legally be mounted on anything less than 8.5" rims, but everyone whacks em on 8" rims anyway.

It is definately outside of the specs but... I have done it for years and prefer it as it protects the bead and holds it tighter. It also protects the side wall and exposes the shoulder for extra grab.

I am not sure what size tyres are standard on a Patrol tyre placard, but anything larger than + 15mm is technically illegal

I have run 285/75-16 (33") MTR's on 16x7 rims for a while and although you are not supposed to do it (minimum 8" rim is specified by GY), I think they fit very well on a narrower rim, hold the bead better and there is less chance of rim damage. I regularly run 8-10psi offroad without beadlocks and have never lost a bead.

For vehicles that come factory with a 7.50x16 (and have it on the placard) you should be able to run a 33" legally. 7.50's are about 31.5-32.5", so a 33" is within the 15mm rule if you are allowed to use the specs of the larger end of the factory tyre size. I think someone posted tyre standards on here before that the 15mm rules are based on (i.e. std ADR diameter for each size).

I used to run 14 inch wide 32 inch high Dick Cepek muds on 15 x 7's.

No tubes and had no issues at all!

They were illegal but only ever bashed around on the weekends on them...
