i have a 1981 2 door rangie..just put a 3 inch lift in it and when i checked to see how bad the drive angles were i noticed that the drive shafts are dead straight......i have heard that these things have crook drive shaft angles? i noticed my diff centre definately angles up......i noticed a vibration when driving but put this down to the rear drive shaft..the part where the rear one joins..if you know what i mean..there is a smaller piece off the back of the tranny and then a longer piece to the diff...this seems flogged out and loose....is there a chance my diffs may have been rolled at some stage? the springs i took out were standard size..

Well, yes, except coil sprung Rover front diffs are pointed up towards the transfer case. The u-joints are purposely put out of phase to counteract the vibration this would otherwise setup.

sure it's the rear shaft making th vibration? I did a 3.5" lift to my RR and had no vibration and had a flogged out slip joint (splined section in the middle) the only differance was the front shaft was out of a disco 2 and have uni's out of phase.

SIII Stage 1 V8 front diffs have the same angle as Rangie front diffs, but use a double cardan front shaft. I have a stage 1 axle in the front of my IIA with the stock IIA drive shaft and have never had any vibration problems. Can't remember if I set up the prop shaft out of phase but I don't think so.

Unis on RR drive shaft were not aligned IE rotated 1 or 2 splines on slip joint.

yep they are out of phase then...so how do i stop the vibration if its my unis? double cardon join?

3 inch lift is out side normal working angles for Stock uni's.
I would rotate diff so that pinion points at T/case and fit DC drive shaft.

I've got a defender 90 that I've raised 2"at the rear to match the 110 Isuzu springs in the front, I havn't driven it yet as it's not complete yet. I am concerned about the angle causing vibrations, I got a cardon joint but don't know weather to fit it or not.
Anyone out there with a D90 done similar thing? and what results?vibrations?

Larns.
welcome aboard.
I would try it first as MOST rovers seem to handle 50mm lift ok.

my rear has handled the 5" lift ok
but a d90 has a shorter rear shaft so may run into sum trouble there
Seems sum are having troubles with driveshafts on Rangies at 3" mine was bad at 6" but since its settled to 5" its absolutely fine
WIERD
So i guess teh princable is... try it.... test it..... then change it to suit

then why was mine okay at 3.5" lift? no mods
on the topic (sorry don't want to steal the thread) can you fit the front flanger off a LT95 onto a R380 ?

vibration is definately coming from the rear.only at low speeds and only when i back off the revs
