BJ, mate I'm just in the process of putting a 75 series 5-speed box and x-fer case in my 45 ute. I know I've got to shorten the rear tailshaft and lengthen the front, but what I want to know is if 75 uni's are the same as 45's?? I don't have any 75's to compare to mine, and I don't want to have to buy them if they are the same uni. I figured you'd be a pretty good bloke to ask. Any info would be appreciated mate.

dude the flanges are different, the unis are probably the same from 1978 onwards but the bolt patterns are way different and the flanges dont swap out cause you got a coarse spline t-case

want to swap that rear diff for the winch at all? 8)

come awwn ill swap just the centre, or the entire housing!

Drill the output flanges of the Tcase to suit the smaller uni-joints. You can run 45 or 75 then.

Thanks BJ and 2car. Appreciate the info fellas.

BJ, I'll get back to ya on that diff.  I've got a guy coming to look at the bar, but he only wants the bar, no winch. If he takes it, then I'll probably come to some sort of arrangement with you. 8)

hey marshy,,(sorry of topic) since your putting a 75 5 speed into your 45....what are you boltin it up too ?

cause the cocks at the wreckers had a 253 conversion out of a 45 ute..and the knob behiond the counter said that the 75 series box has a longer input shaft (which makes sence given you need different length shaft....Thusly would not be compatiable to bolt up to my box !

is this true
are tehy different lengths at the bell housing to box length ? as in is the bellhousing and input shaft longer ?

if you get my drift ?

marshy i PM'ed you, it is now a worthwhile deal, if the wench is in good shape and has cable.

Punchy call or PM me with a specific question i think the wreckers told you a BS story but i can give you a definite yes or no, i need to know years, and possibly the spline count or engine that was inb front of the box (firewall tags) orr a rough guess i.e. petrol diesel, badges etc will tell you that.

I am fairly sure the bellhousing from a four speed will bolt to a 5 speed..... and punchy i can show you how to do it. 8) it takes 2 minutes and your grinder
