Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all. There was a topic a few months ago about this, but it didn't really get anywhere.

I have an MK LWB, with sliding rear windows. The actual window frames are almost completely rusted out, and need to be fixed asap.

My panel beater suggested replacing each complete side at $500ish per side - YEAH FRIKKIN RIGHT!!!

The actual windows are perfect, and so is the sill part that holds the frame in. Its just the frame that is rusted. If I have to replace the windows with MQ type single pane glass - then I will. I just dont want leaking windows, or somewhere for the cancer (rust) to spread onto my nice body.

Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.

Nissan priced them at $180 each for me.

I didn't know that, and someone on here said Nissan would want $450/side.

It's a fucking peice of cake to change over yourself - just ring Nissan and get the price from them.

I ended up getting 2nd hand frames that were rusty off someone on this board & wish I'd just gotten them new.

For $180 you get new frames and brand new rubber, if your frames are rusted it's a good chance that your rubber is also beyond repair - no one sells that rubber seperate, no window places or rubber shops.

So for $180x2 you will get brand new rear windows.

The alternative is to turn them into non sliding windows, which apparantly can be done with some "H rubber" - I didn't look into that because I have a shorty and need the rears to open.

Oh and if you are chasing some frames 2nd hand, patroldude has some that arn't rusted out - he was chasing $100/pair or something last time he had them listed.

Drop him a PM and see if he still has them.

Heard of a boat builder in Melbourne who specializes in 2 things, aluminium boats and aluminium Nissan side windows.

A guy at work knows him so I will ask and post tomorrow.

I'll call into Nissan today and get a price. I'll post it up later today.

there was a boat place in Sydney doing these as well.. $550 per side. that was 2 yrs ago, have their info here somewhere.

Went to my nissan dealer. $280 per side.

"An 86 model MK. Built in late 86, first registered in 87."
-"So its an MQ then?"
"No, its an MK."
- (Blank look from parts guy)
"Okay. If its easier for you, its an MQ mate"
-"Right then. That makes a bit more sense, doesn't it?"

Stuff me drunk. The parts guy (and owner of the business) didn't know the MK's existed.

For a GQ I was quoted $200 for frames and $200 for weather strip each side!

Coxy, It's funny you should say that about the MK because it's something that has always puzzled me. I was working in a Nissan dealership spareparts department in the late 80's and I kept reading about MK patrol's in 4X4 Aust but couldn't find reference to them in Nissan's material. I assume it was when they went to the square head light but it doesn't suprise me the guy was confused. Where does the designation actually come from?

The nissan guy told me that "MK's never existed, they were just a marketing ploy - they are just an MQ."

I didn't wanna argue with him, but they did exist - it's just that the two car's are very similar.
