Can someone tell me what the standard ratios are in an 85 County?
Are they3.54 or 4.7?

If it is 3.54 where can I get a 4.7 centre for the front diff as I am looking at buying a rear maxi drive diff complete with the 4.7ratio?

Here is my reply to your question in the for sale thread.

If so are the ratios different on the stock County centre?

Unfortunately not.

The coil sprung land rover diffs have a 3.54:1 ratio, the leaf sprung 4.7:1. As well as this the coiler axles are about 6" wider. For a salisbury, the short axle is the same length in a series or a county (defender is about 10mm shorter because of narrowed hubs), however there is 6" diference in the long axle. Also, you cannot swap ring and pinions to change the ratio because the flanges are in different places on the respective carriers.

If you are looking at changing the front to 4.7, any series diff centre will fit, however you will have very low gearing in low and high range and are likely to be breaking a lot of front ring and pinions. I am not familiar with the locker mechanism in this prototype locker, but at the very least you will need one new long axle to fit it to your county, and if it is like Mal's current design the axle will need extra splines on it for the locking dog to engage with.

It would be a good idea to check with Mal story to see if he can suppy the axle you need to convert it and how much it will cost.

3.54 standard

you could use a Series Landy diff for the 4.7 ratio. But they are weak as. maxi drive can get stronger ones from memory, but $$

what tyre size you running? want to be big or have a 1:1 high range as it will have very low gearing with 4.7's

Cheers for the info Ben. Looks like I will just do the MD upgrade at a later date with the gear I am running.
