What Compressor?

G'day folks.
I need to buy a compressor (don't want to spend a million though) - what do we recommend?

would say arb which has a one year warranty and has a rebuild kit
there is also the bushranger compressors i know sound dodgy but they come with i think a five year warranty or somethin silly like that and are quicker then the arb

I saw an impressive compressor at Autobarn today.
I does 90L/min with a 60min duty cycle.
Comes in a decent case.
$250
Looked bloody good.
I think it was called Dr Air

If you are or are planning to run air lockers, you really can't go past the ARB compressor...

I've just put a second ARB compressor in my truck so now I have twins.
I run them both into a common line to feed the airlockers and a 9kg fire bottle as an airtank.

If you are or are planning to run air lockers, you really can't go past the ARB compressor...
I'll challenge that! I personally would not even use an ARB conpressor for a wheel chock.

If you are or are planning to run air lockers, you really can't go past the ARB compressor...
If you are planning on pumping tyres, you could barely do worse ...

If you are planning on pumping tyres, you could barely do worse ...
I also hope you never have to reseat a bead.
Unfortunately, with compressors, you get what you pay for.

Suprisingly the arb will seat a bead. Have used it several times when I've had to clean mud out of the rim.

For 250ish dollars, with warranty, spares and air locker compatibility it cant be beat, can it? For the price, that is...

I think it was called Dr Air
It is physically bigger than the Bushranger compressors, the biggest motor I have seen in a 12V compressor (except for the winch motor type) 0.25hp as opposed to 0.20hp for ARB, Big Red, etc.
The ARB is only 33L/min.

i bought mine from repco, i think its called xtreme air or something. i cant fault it, although i havent used it much. it was cheap enough, 12 month warrenty and came with a bunch of attachments and shit. $200.00

The Repco one cant be the same, the one in USA is $US375...

your 100% right. i just went and checked it. its a maxi track.........but it has a big orange X on the box, and it sounded right enough to save me a walk out to the shed that early in the morning.

go a York or other A/C compressor and turn that into an air compressor!
works a treat! and is pretty inexpensive depending on your level of complexity.

hey mate - got any pics? This idea sounds like the go, you would get 100% duty cycle (I'd be thinkin) and I guess you would get pretty god volume out of it as well.

Search 'on board air' and OBA. You'll find heaps. Definintly the way to go imo

I am with beebee on the arb copms
I have in my car a viair 72lm 100% duty and was about 250.00
With a 2lt air tank it runs the lockers easaly With a tee pc in the feed line it also fills one of those 18lt arlec air tanks for popping beads. All up about 320.00 with fittings

ive got the Bushranger max-air, very happy with it so far.......pumps the tyres up quick and easy.

I have been looking around at lots of them including ebay. The one on ebay looks like the same one as the bushranger one. I have also seen very similar looking units with the same bag and attachments in Super cheap $180, Ebay $150, Repco $200 in a box and then saw the same one at BigW for $89. All of these look the same and state 72 lpm with the same extras. Would they all be from the same supplier. Is it possible that they have different internals?

I guess the Air Up system needs to be seen to be appreciated.
It's not by accident that everybody hassles me at the comps when someone has rolled a bead off, needs that impossible to shift pinion nut removed or wants to use the air jack.
And the icing on the cake is that I can hand it to them and they walk away with it. I don't have to drive my vehicle down onto the track where they've broken as it is fully portable.
I know I'm not giving mine back

That's just a modified "chassis tech" compressor. Snake racing and bigballs both sell em for around $520.
They are not a sealed unit so they need to be mounted away from water or dust otherwise their cooling fan (ie 100% duty) will just blow shit into the motor and kill em.

The airup is a nice little system.....But I still prefer my York!!
And it's got ample balls for reseting beads or running air tools........CFM over double that 12v battery drain

Wasn't the ARB designed to operate lockers????????
That is shifting 2x2mm cubed of air...no one wonder they struggle to pump up tyres.
I had a ten year old blue tongue, it was crap but still blew twice as much as the ARB.
Also be aware of the bush ranger knock offs...the best one has the metal piston and proper piston sleave and is a bargain at $199, the one with the crap sleave is usually around $150 and the one with the plastic piston even cheaper.
...on the outside they all look the same.
...at 70 plus L/min and for $199 they are the best buy by far. I have the twin tongue which is awesome, but I would rather have bought 2x70L/min at $199 each instead of $700.

have got the big repco maxi trak to run in the comp truck and am very happy, will get the tank set up shortly.
In the GU I have a bush ranger (small on) much cheaper than the ARB and pumps quicker.
IMHO the ARB one is only good as a simple installation with lockers
