Need some tips guys

It is brakes on a Y60 Patrol 95 model LWB

Have poor brake effect. I have new OEM pads, brakehoses, pipes, fluid, main cylinder and caliper overhaul, no air in the fluid. I have 36" tires on it now, but they were just the same with 33" tires.

It`s a little better when warm, but the pads seems to be too hard.

We use Bendix Metal Kings in the front, and Bendix 4WD pads in the rear. Work well on 35's and 36's, but only when warm. Originally tried Metal Kings in the rear, but they locked up too easily (brake bias has been adjusted to suit the lift), so went to 4WD pads instead. No problems since.

Hey per, I've just put on some "race brake" brand pads and they work a treat. They're made hear in Australia. http://www.racebrakes.com.au Or PH.0011 617 33419911 (Queensland) or 0011 612 9609 1101 (Sydney) They make a huge difference to stopping power. You may be able to find some decent pads in Europe somewhere as well. My pads cost about $200au for all four wheels.

Are they RB24?

In Aus, the TB42E (4.2lt EFI) came with twin piston calipers. These are supposed to pull up much better. And they are a bolt mod, for those wanting to upgrade. I havnt got them but have heard they are worth while. Maybe bogged will chime in as he atleast brought a set of them. Just not sure if they are on the car yet.

i just shot off a heap of emails to several brake places
about brake upgrades for patrols

i listed both my ute and wagon and what they were used for
so will be interesting what they come back to me with

maybe try some different pads from Australia then and see how it goes.


I have 6" lift and made a load sensing valve bracket to suit, but the back wheels locks up easily. And it feels like there is very poor brakes on the front.
Squeaking noise from the front too.

Upgrade your front pads first. It won't hurt to have better pads anyway. Try extending your rear bias a bit more as well. It almost sounds like your front sits a bit lower than the rear. You could try spring spacers in the front to shift some more of the weight to the rear. Try the pads first and see if they make a difference.

It is lower in the front, think it looks better, it is around 1". I`ve had spacers in the front before and didn`t do it any better.

The load valve relocationbracket is actually shorter than the 6" it should have been, so I have less brakeeffect on the rear than stock.

I will give the brakeshop a call tomorrow and try out some Bendix, Ferodo or what they recommend.

Give them one chance, then some australien ones

the guy reckons they don't make anything for nissans
im pretty sure i saw in their catalogue slotted rotars for patrols
and now i can't get to the catalogue online
anyhow heres the email ...

Hey luke chat to the guys at brakemart here in townsville. The quoted me $149 each rotor whether slotted or crossdrilled or both.

With mine (ute) it is spring mounted on a metal bracket off the crossmember above the rear diff. The original wizard kit that was on my truck came with an extended bracket to mount on to the original bracket to compensate for the lift. The rear brake bias is controlled by this spring mount. As you put more weight in the ute it sits lower allowing the spring to compress more and allowing more brake bias to the rear. I hope this helps. Not sure if it is the same on a wagon. My falcon ute had a similar setup but was just a chain.

DBA Slotted for Nissan Patrol:

Bendix do not make performance pads for Nissan Patrols. Sorry I can't help.

this just come in from bendix

Adjust tail rod at the top of your brake pedal so that there is less pedal droop before pressure starts to apply to calipers. Was a simple fix for my 98 wagon now much much harder pedal. Adjust in small incraments until it feels better.
