kingpin adjustments - what the?
kingpin adjustments - what the?
I have just finished cleaning a heap of oil/grease combo off my brake parts, due to the a leaking axle oil seal. A heap of oil had leaked into my cv, which then proceeded to spread thoughout my wheel bearings and then out through the hub casing and all over the brake pads, rotor, and calipers. It amazing how much you want both front brakes working when you are coming down a a steep range, fully loaded with gear, and you have to brake suddenly. Something about oil, grease, friction and brakes just doesnt work! Anyway, so a heap of oil has leaked into the cv. My problem is i dont understand why it is leaking. I replaced this seal about 3 monhs ago. I have been told if there is wear in the kingpin bearings, or if there are additional shimms required, then the axle shaft does not seal completely agains the oil seal. Does anyone know what is the best way to check that the kingpin shimms are correct?
