Just interested on opinions on the strength of the standard f20 diffs, axles, cv's, etc.
Asking for a mate, looking at running some 33's or larger on standard diffs.
Cheers

I don't know for sure but here are some pic's of axles/driveshaft/cv. they seem pretty beefy to me (30 mm thick). CV's are a little small i think. Axle tubing is quite heavy. Took 3 blokes to move the axle assembly.
When running 33's or bigger you'll have to compensate wyht bigger offset rims /spacers to keep some turning ability. That puts more stress on the bearings.
Cheers, Ron

Thanks for the good info.
Anyone ever blown a CV or axle in a F20?

An early rocky in the tough tracks series here in se qld has broken them in comps, same size as the f20. no lockers, but usually with excessive wheelspin and swampers...

although you have to keep in mind, CV's are almost always (note, almost! 95% of the time always) the weakest link in a 4x4 drive train. thats why you need to do a SAS!

SOLID AXLE SWAP=NO CVS!!!!

I got to correct you on this. Solid axles also have joints to accomodate steering. Whether these are cardan joints, like in a TJ or some other open knuckle designs or CV's (Birfield, Rzeppa), depends on make vehicle. Early daihatsus all have solid fronts so a sas wouldn't do any good except more trackwidht with a wider axle. I agree with you that CV's are a weak spot in the driveline, but they can be strengthenend (marfields or custom). unfortunately no such kit for daihatsu....
Axleshafts seem to have almost the same diameter as d44's so for a light 4b it should do the job. I think there's not enough experience with the daihatsu cv's to make a reliability statement. just wheel them and find out
Cheers Ron
