a mate of mine is about to buy a sierra, and would like to know if the mid-high end cam would make any difference?
the sierra has extractors and a 2" exhaust already, with a small muffler and thats it. nothing else done, standard factory carby, through factory air box, and through a snorkel.
we've been in another sierra that was for sale with 'apparently' head work and a cam in it, and it went heaps better than the one my mates about to buy. is it really that much of a difference?
price difference between these 2 for sale is $2200.
and they're both in basically the same condition. one was a hard top, and the other which he's about to buy was a soft top, but now its a little ute. SIK!
anyway, computers are a little complex for him, so i'm trying to help out.
and he also wants to know if the 4 inch drop shackles fitted to the sierra are any good.
oh well, will get pics for you all if he buys it.

I had a cam regreound for max. torque.
It did make a difference. But as with all these mods one must compliment it with a carb, more compression etc. The cam alone will be noticeable, at least the torque cam was. Oh yeah, I added an adjustable cam sprocket too. Not neck snapping, but I could overtake and was no longer embarrassed.

Adam does a nice product and consider getting the timing plate cover too as it will make life easy getting to the sprocket.

Nicbeer, I bought mine from p. berg who was making them a while back in the states. About US $140 from memory.
But I have to say that the alloy teeth wear a bit quick. It is very hard to get the cam belt super tight I find, and the alloy needs a tight belt to wear well.

Bit of an update... after more than 2 months my power-punch combo has finally arrived from the States. Customs fees came to $58.
Here's a pic, I'll install it all when I get my exhaust piping made to suit, you can see that they've included an adapter to weld on to the rest of the exhaust.. it's 2.5"

Ok I've put the air filter and extractors on. It's running good with some noticable torque but lower top end. (probably due to the air/fuel ratio) My car really needs timing adjustment and a carby tune so I won't really comment until after that. My car bogs down a little if I put my foot flat to the floor, I get more power when I ease off the throttle a touch.
For the exhaust, I'm running 2.5" from the extractors to the cat, then 2.25" to the muffler, and have left the standard (small) tip for now until I put the cam in. Getting the piping done only cost me $100.
Had a bit of an issue mounting the air filter, as you can see in the pic, the adapter has a mount on it, I was hoping that this would bolt up to something but it doesn't, I'm going to make a bracket to bolt it onto and will get a pic to help you understand.
