I'm looking to buy a Range Rover but cant get clear facts so i'm looking to find out:

* When did they stop making 2 doors?
* When did EFI come out?
* When did 5 speeds start?
* When did A/C start?
* When did Power Steer start?

* Feel free to post any other info, pics etc you think would be helpful to the prospective Rangie buyer!!

Thanks everyone!

Okay, I'll try and be to the point about what is what. If I'm incorrect, someone will correct me I'm sure :D

Power Steering- 73 is when it was optional but late 78 from memory is when it was made standard fitment.

Air con- Never a genuine option til the 4 door come out in 82 (in Australia) even then it was still an AMC unit, much better than the genuine LR ones from my experience. I remember my 84 Rangie had the genuine air con fitted, the guages are not poisitioned in the dashtop like earlioer AMC converted units.

2 doors- Stopped importing them in 83 to Oz, never were released in 5 speeds unless there's one kicking around still, but unlikely

5 speeds- October 83 alongside with the Chrysler 3 speed auto, another awful gearbox option from LR :bad-words: The Chrysletr is bulletproof in it's defense but a small 3.5 and 1:1 high range don't help here making the first factory fitted RR autos sluggish to say the least

EFI- Jan 86 in Oz. was released in UK a year earlier, but unleaded wasn't introduced til 86 in Oz (long time ago now  ). The Lucas L-Ject, crap system but some work and some are crap to be honest so it's pot luck what your L-ject Rangie will fall into.

Hope that clears it up a bit. I'm sure I have missed something but someone around here will fill the blanks.

Regards,

Trav

ruff, were these black? if so i believe they were the csk's (classic Spen King) named after the key designer. they were available(stock two doors) in europe into the late ninties. i believe they had less tax on them as the rear windows were blanked out and they were classed as vans.

It's a minor detail but Spen King's first name was Charles, hence CSK. They were all 3.9 autos IIRC. Now where' s my anorak?

lets get a few things straight about the CSK's they were a anniversary liited edition model of only 200 released, (only 3 known in Oz) they were made in 1990 celebrating 20years of range rover, i actually know who just sold the CSK,

the CSK came out with an upgraded high compression 3.9L motor, all were 5 speed manual, came in black only, all luxury interior,

there are a few more things i can think of if you would like to know
