Noisy Suzi

G'day, I'm relatively new to this forum, I haven't really actively participated that much but I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I managed to find out where the noise is coming from. What I did was take off my rear tailshaft, engaged 4wd and locked the hubs and took the car for a test drive. The noise was gone which means the noise is most likely coming from the rear diff. Taking the diff out and changing the bearings is no problem for me but I just had one question. We all know that worn bearings can cause that horrible whining sound, but is it always the two side bearings that carry the axle spline that make that noise or is it possible that it's the other ones, you know the ones that spin around,(I don't know what they're called). I don't want to change these bearings and then find out that it's not it.

One a side note, I'm getting a bit of 'play' in my transfer case and goes clunk when I turn the shafts. Is there an adjustment in it to fix that or am I up for a new transfer case? Thank you for any info in advance

it is probably a good idea to change pinion bearings and seals while at it

I definitely didn't, in fact I love it rough every which way ;) . Thing is I'll be selling maybe next year and it's hard to even have a conversation in the car.
