Ive noticed that in a stop start stop start through the city today that the fan starts to blow hot air through the vents. once you get a run cool air then comes through ,is this normal?

air cond relies on air flow to cool it as you go.. when you stop theres no airflow.

when stopped it gets a lot of heat from the motor/bonnent area. Also the heat from the firewall. Where as when moving there is enough airflow to dissipate this heat, thus you get cooler air.

i thought a gu would not be a remote drama keep cool incab. ive been shivering in mates gu wagons playing offroad... my gq aircon is very poor at the best of time and so many window make cool conditions.

I am having the same experience with my 2002 GU. I'm finding it impossible to keep the cabin cool when offroad (other thank keeping the windows down, which isn't always practical :-)).

Is this a common issue with Patrols/GU's?

no, both my GU and GQ 4.2 turbos deisels have no probs with the aircon when stationary or when off road

Thats cool...excuse the pun  ...

but i wasn't driving with the aircon. I just mean that the fan was blowing hot air into the cabin, even with the temp dial all the way over to cold.

I don't seem to have had the same problem in other 4B's, so i wasn't sure if the was related to some sort of insulation issue in the Patrols :?: :!:

Its normal on both GQ and GU.

Robin Miller on the Patrol4x4 Yahoo forum posted a fix once.
Its just heat soak. Clears up when you move faster.
It means you have to use the aircon when crawling if it gets annoying.
