Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all. Borrowed my mates 35's for a few weeks, and they fit fine. I took the photos with my phone so they're not really great.

The closest part to rubbing is the back part of the front guards, but you can still squeeze a finger between it. The tyres are 35x11.5 R15, Simex Extreme Trekker II's. The rims are Trak 4's (15x8), with hand made bead locks.

All my wagon has got is Ironman suspension (with a supposedly 2" lift, but it was no higher than the original springs), and 2" extended Superior shackles.

They are only 11.5's though, so they might be okay - most people either need to do a body lift or cut the guards slightly so they clear, but that is usually with wider tread.

I had mq swb with 3 inch susp lift and extended front shackles.
At full travel-
with 33/12.5 muddys was perfect.
with 35/12.5 just rubbed at the rear.

his ironman springs are fairly stiff though, so they probably won't articulate that well - in addition, they are only 11.5's so they might not rub

with superiors thats going to rub straight away off road. I had similar set up, 2 inch springs superiors rear and 2 inch extended front shackles. 33's fit but needed spacers and 3 inch tray lift on the rear so wouldn't hit. put my mates 35 on when i had 2 inch body as well and they just rubbed on the front and tray when at full stuff
if i chopped guards 35's could of fit with out body lift easy

I reckon a speed bump will make em hit let alone any type of wheeling

as soon as you flex up the front they will hit the front bottom corner of the guard and will hit indicator covers....

Considering my 35 MTRS used to rub on the front the simexs with surely hit and do some damage as they are really alot bigger than an MTR.

Just get the grinder out and all will be fixed

just drive it and let the tyres make themselves fit into the guards ..
then you'll see how much u need to chop out hahaha

no one said they wont fit.. you will find you will have some serious chopped up tyres, or pretty hammered guards..

The reason why i actually borrowed the whells and tires, was to sort of start with the biggest tyres that i would consider buying, try them for size, and then work my way back from there.

I've been driving around all week with them on, and haven't had any rubbin yet. There's oodles of room in the front parts of the front guard, but when you flex it, it gets awful bloody close to the back part of the guard.

So, after this little experiment, I think I'm going to go for 34's, and still put my 2" body lift in. I reckon that i will then have decent size tyres, with heaps of room to flex and bounce etc. etc.

if your happy with that size tyre I would just trim the guards up. I havnt looked at a MK for awhile but it looks like there is heaps of room to do abit of trimming. As for having a low car on big tyres I think it is the best way to go.

articulation in this case would not be your friend, and ya mate'll be shitty when ya schred his rubber

when the front of your Patrol flexes the tyre is pushed forward and will hit the front of the guard and indicator cover for sure........

My 34 odd in 35MTR used to so a simex certainly will....

Minimal clearance on the back is fine as it won't move back

MEGA SCRUBBAGE

MAJOR SCRUBAGE. Even if you hit a half decent pot hole or bump it going to scrub. So technically they dont fit.

Fair dinkum, I could bolt 44" boggers under mine but i wouldn't say they fit.

Read my last post and say something constructive. Clearly you wouldn't actually use tyres that big on a car that hasn't got the guard clearance. I just had the impression that they wouldn't actually fit on the car altogether.

Usually when we go out driving, we have to travel 200-300kms to get there. I'm just a bit worried about 35's taking its toll on the brakes, and the motor. I should be getting lower ratio diffs fairly soon anyway, and a couple of the guys on here said 35's fit sweet with a 2" body lift. So at least that'll leave the option open to me.

The main reason for this thread was just to see if anyone on here thought my approach to finding the right size tyre was a good idea or not. No point spending $$$ on tyres that you're not going to like in the long run hey?

couldnt agree more infact i wouldnt run 35s on mine if that was the case id drop back to 33's for sure....

don't worry about it, it's a patrol!! nah seriously just remember that it is a fourby not set up for going fast on the road and drive it with that in mind

This is true, but wouldnt it be great it if could go fast around town, then slower than slow offroad

would be good, i tried it but it cost me about 15 grand so when i get my new car soon i'm gonna drive slow, learnt my leason the real hard way

My mates are shocking. Whenever we go on a trip, its always gotta be a bloody race. But they've only got lo-luxes, so I'm right anyways. They'ree lucky to hit 90k's going downhill, with a tail wind.

How do you guys fing the balancing of big tyres like this? If you get a good set of rubber, with straight rims do they ride as well as my little 31's would?
