Just finished converting my GQ waon to a ute by bolting on a ute cab.
I'm running a very light, home made rear rear tray and the weight difference is very noticable. It will spin the wheels very easily but, it now rides like a leaf sprung Hilux!
Now, Im sure its not the springs as without the shocks attached I can jump on the rear x-member and almost bottom the suspension. (I'm only 80kg) When I cross axle it the bumpstops touch on the compressed side so I reckon the spring rate is about right.
I've got OME shocks on the rear and I asked for the soft ones but I still think they're way too stiff and this is why the ride is rough. What shocks do people recommend for a light rear end?
Is my off-road traction going to be worse because of the light rear end and am I better off putting a heavy steel tray on it? I hope theres another solution because the acceleration is so much better now..........

Weight over the arse end is about the only option. With out it you will be forever fighting a loosing battle not to mention the offroad capabilities of it without weight.

If your springs are ment for a wagon than you are best to go to a ute spring. By the time you put a spare tyre tools and esky you will be right especially with the faster acceleration you have gained. Momentum always gets you there when all else fails.
