Pat Callinan's Zook (4WD Monthly)

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on Pat Callinan's blue LWB that has been built up in 4WD monthly?
It's got lifted springs, Ext shackles, Hilux axles and t/f, 35 Claws, Commodore V6+auto etc.
Sorry, I've got no pics.

personally don't like it, but that's my whole why add a huge engine gearbox driveline to drive a big tyre when you can do that using a small light engine with gearing. It looks like it might work in mud but it doesn't appear to flex very well.

I like the front bar on it, thats about it. At the end of the day, its more holden/hilux than zook.
I think the last issue where it featured they mentioned 17k, I cant see where all that money went, still, it was interesting to see something get built up - and finished (No Offense NAM)

Otis is the one
I have to admit I like the look of it, but wasn't really sure how well that set up would work especially with the big V6 in the front when decending. I must admit that I would love to do something along those lines and have it work well, though time, money and reality are not necessarily backing me. I love the idea of the auto and oodles of grunt, but I would suspect a lighter smaller alloy V6 would do perhaps in some respects a nicer job, not because of power, but because of the weight.
hmmm, heres dreaming. hehehe back to my 1.0 plugger and reality

What i like is how the make up of the $17K does not include the claws or the high mount winch, etc, etc, etc. What else is he forgetting!!!!
In reality it would probably cost alot more.
My ute isn't too dis-similar, but at least i still have a zook donk.
Cheers,
Andrew.

At a rough guess there is about another 5-6k of stuff not on that 17k list
Pretty cool little truck.

I think it's over rated.i think a well modified standard zook could out drive that.
Ok it's got a s*#t load of HP, But who needs it when you've got rockhopper gears.
Plus don't forget the prices in the mag are probably mates rates because of the plugs they put in mag for all the suppliers and people who worked on it.
overall i think it's an over priced zook, thats my opinion.

Did i fark up was it $850? If it was $850 then i guess thats a fair price.
I only looked at the list quickly and that was a few weeks ago.
That total price on the build has got to be way off. I still cant beleive that they would start building this as a budget build up and just re-set the springs and fit longer shackels and then decide to do a full build up and not fit some decent suspension under it.
I dont buy 4wd monthly so im not up to date on this build but it will be interesting to see how it all works out in the end.

it was up at my mates work (maurie dick auto electrics) bout 2 weeks ago getting fully rewired and it had some 37" MTR's and it looked way better than it does wif claws, it is also running superior 4wd shackles out back.

They sort of lost the plot, huh?? Cool little truck, but not really obtainable for people in the real world to sub-contract all the work out and still have the labour costs so low.
The labour figures in that $17k list were really minimal, obviously a lot of contra dealing going on...
And for what started out as being a "do it yourself budget basher" it isn't really, is it??
Has anyone here been out for a drive with him, or seen it in action as yet??

Dunno how many of you have studyed the bar up close but it's got a lot of kinks, i'd have to say done with a pipe bender fo sho..... Don't get me wrong it looks great and had some hours put into it but it ain't worth the $1850 that was quoted in the mag. IMHO
